How a round of craps works

Craps is built around the roll of two dice and a marker called the point. A round starts with the come-out roll. If you bet the Pass line, you win immediately on a 7 or 11 and lose on a 2, 3, or 12. Any other number, a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10, becomes the point. From there the shooter keeps rolling until either the point repeats, which wins the Pass line, or a 7 appears, which loses it.

Don’t Pass is the mirror image: it wins on the come-out 2 or 3, pushes on 12, loses on 7 or 11, and then wins if a 7 comes before the point repeats. It is marginally better at 1.36% versus 1.41%, but it means rooting against the shooter, which some players dislike at a live table.

Why the Odds bet is the whole game
